Artist's Description

Prickly Pear cactus grow with flat surfaces and large thorns in dry areas with poor soil. The flowers are bright orange with interesting centers that look like small eyes which will become the fruit. The fruit is very tasty, but are covered with very small thorns, making them hard to enjoy. Old Hawaiian trick to picking the fruit, "get a empty can, put hole in bottom, put the end of a stick in the hole, put can over fruit and bang the fruit against the inside of can to brake the thorns off, with gloves on, peel pear and enjoy"!
